Portugal Approves Open Standards Adoption Proposal

Dec 13, 2010

"Portuguese Association of Open Source Software Enterprises, supports this initiative unequivocally." - ESOP Press Release

The Portuguese Association of Open Source Software Enterprises (ESOP) announced today that the Portuguese Parliament has approved the proposal to adopt Open Standards. The announcement says that the proposal, which was presented last week, had wide consensus of all Portuguese political parties.

According to the ESOP, these steps move Portugal closer to adding its name to the growing list of countries already using Open Standards, and adoption will allow for improved interoperability, strengthen market competition, help adjust the price value of solutions, and resolves the protocol and format problems caused by “exclusivity contracts”.

More information on the ESOP and Open Standards Adoption in Portugal can be found on the website.
