Curl Learns IMAP, POP3, SMTP

Feb 10, 2010

Command line downloader Curl and its Libcurl library are available in version 7.20.0 with expanded protocol support.

Apart from HTTP, FTP and SCP, the tool can handle IMAP, POP3 and SMTP, including their SSL-secured versions. Also supported is RTSP, the streaming protocol from RealNetworks for multimedia content.

Curl goes on to provide the PRET (PRE Transfer) command for FTP sessions. Developers also fixed numerous bugs. Further details are in the changelog.

Curl 7.20 is ready for download from the project homepage as a source code tarball. The binaries will probably be available later. Libcurl is included in the Curl package, with the MIT/X derivative license in effect.
