SCALE 11x Conference Details
The SCALE 11x conference is rapidly approaching. This year’s event will be held February 22-24, 2013 at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport hotel.
According to the website, the 11th annual Southern California Linux Expo (SCALE) expects to host more than 100 exhibitors and feature more than 70 speakers. This year’s keynote speakers include Kyle Rankin, who will deliver a talk called “Practical 3D Printing and the Open Source Community.” In an interview with Gareth Greenaway, Rankin said that the talk would provide a quick primer on hobbyist 3D printing and include examples of what users can make. “Beyond that I want to dig into 3D printing’s Open Source roots and draw some parallels between the Linux and 3D printing communities,” Rankin said.
Matthew Garrett’s keynote talk is called “The Secure Boot Journey.” In an interview posted on the SCALE website, Garrett said his talk would cover the “more social and political aspects of the journey from having no idea of what we were going to do to shipping working solutions.” Garrett called the ongoing process of developing solutions to the secure boot problem a “story of unexpected cooperation and unfortunate obstructionism.”
Additionally, Joe Brockmeier will present “Taking the Open Cloud to 11 with CloudStack.” When I spoke with Brockmeier briefly, he said, “What I hope to do with my talk is to take a little of the mystery out of IaaS cloud, show how easy it is to get started with CloudStack, and encourage users to take it for a spin if they need to get a handle on their computing environment.” However, Brockmeier added, “I can’t promise there won’t be cat pictures.”
This year’s SCALE conference will also feature DevOps Day Los Angeles, the MySQL Community Conference, and more.
