VMKnoppix 5.3.1: CD with Updated Virtualization

Version 20080519 of VMKnoppix (previously known as Xenoppix), a live distribution specifically designed for virtualization has just been released.

The live system is based on Knoppix Version 3.5.1, which Klaus Knopper introduced at Cebit 2008 and released at the end of March. This means that it is actually based on the Debian Lenny branch.

The Japanese developers behind VMKnoppix have added current versions of virtualization software including Xen Version 3.2.1, dated May 19. The system also includes the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), the Qemu emulator version 0.9.1, which supports AMD's ADM-V technology, along with User Mode Linux (UML), Virtualbox, Bitvisor and the accelerated Qemu variant KQemu.

The developers also supply the Inetboot and Etherboot/GPXE programs to support loading of network-based boot images. Further components facilitate the deployment of virtualized systems in trusted computing environments.

The new VMKnoppix release is available for downloading via HTTP, FTP and Bittorent. A PDF provides a short guide to the distribution and will fit on a CD.
